fidel popped up again yesterday and announced that his appointment of raul as his successor was not nepotism. That’s right. It was simply communist strong-arm succession. AFP reports on a letter fidel allegedly wrote to the Cuban assembly in which he says he saw the light.
“There was a stage when I thought I [...]

The Supreme Court

Our friend Jackie Dowd at The 13th Juror has a post that shocked me - no current member of the U.S. Supreme Court has ever defended anyone charged with a felony. That means none of them have direct experience with prosecutors such as Mike Nifong, no experience with overwrought police tactics, and no experience with [...]

The enemies of freedom have struck again. Reports say former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated this morning in a suicide attack. Some reports say she was shot multiple times - other reports say her wounds were caused by shrapnel.
One report says al Qaeda is claiming responsibility.
“We terminated the most precious American [...]

Instead of enjoying time with his family, worshiping in church or doing anything a normal person would do on Christmas day, Cuban Vice President Carlos Lege spent his day touring oil facilities. He is quoted by Reuters UK as being concerned about energy setbacks on the island.
Cuban oil and gas output rose only slightly to [...]

I’m sad to report that Mama Inez Hill of the world famous H&H Restaurant in Macon has passed away. Funeral services are today.
The H&H was just up Cotten Avenue from Phil Walden’s headquarters - Redwal Music, and Mama Inez fed the generation of rock ‘n roll musicians of the 60s and 70s.
Her funeral is today, [...]

hugo chavez took a trip to Cuba, sat down with fidel castro to talk about integrating their countries, then moved on to running an oil summit. The Associated Press has the story, but strangely fails to mention any demonstrations by anti-big-oil anti-globalists. Oh, well.
Chavez, who wants to use Venezuela’s vast oil reserves to help create [...]

The Witches of West Virginia

Curtis Leroy Cooper tooled along at fifty-miles per hour, the fastest his 1984 Le Baron would go up the grades, hardly paying attention to the bucolic winter scenery that surrounded him. Being a city boy, the sparsely placed farms and thick woods that populated the foothills of West Virginia comprised a [...]

Iran and the Americas

We’ve written many stories here about Iran’s inroads into the Americas - particularly in Venezuela and somewhat in Cuba. We’ve pointed out that Iranian missiles have the range to hit large parts of the US if they were to build bases in those countries.
Now Investors Business Daily reports that Iran [...]

Welcome to the new and improved Paxety Pages. This site began in 1998 and was created in Notepad. It mostly contained a few humorous stories and some original music. After the murderous attack on September 11, 2001, the site was expanded to include politics. It first used software provided by Bellsouth. Then it was switched [...]
