jimmy carter says give Hamas a chance.

Our former president has outdone himself. Not content with certifying the election of thugs under very questionable circumstances, jimmy carter has now taken the side of an organization that has killed and wounded many Americans, and which has called for the destruction of Israel.   Mahone showed his respect for carter late last year with this cartoon.

CNN reports carter saying that the U.S. should not cut off financial support for Hamas.

"If you sponsor an election or promote democracy and freedom around the world, then when people make their own decision about their leaders, I think that all the governments should recognize that administration and let them form their government," Carter said.

Then there's a what's-he-smoking quote:

"If there are prohibitions -- like, for instance, in the United States, against giving any money to a government that is controlled by Hamas -- then the United States could channel the same amount of money to the Palestinian people through the United Nations, through the refugee fund, through UNICEF, things of that kind," he added.

carter says there's a good chance Hamas could become a non-violent organization.

"They told me they want to have a peaceful administration. They want to have a unity government, bring in Fatah members and independent members," Carter said. But he added that "what they say and what they do is two different matters."

What they do is lob shells into civilian neighborhoods, send suicide bombers into taverns, and engage in shootouts with Palestinean police.

I got the opportunity to vote against jimmy carter eight times - but by this, I'm stunned.
