No increase in natural disasters

Back in the 60s and early 70s we were able for the first time to sit at home and see video of the destruction caused by natural disasters all over the world. My grandmother was convinced that there had been a huge increase in hurricanes - and that the reason was the moon missions. She thought a rocket powerful enough to send men to the moon was powerful enough to cause hurricanes. We now know, thanks to research by Dr. William Gray and the National Weather Service, that the 60s and 70s were actually down periods in the number of hurricanes.

Now, in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, the earthquake in Pakistan, etc. we hear folks claiming once again that there has been an increase in natural disasters. In The Agora does some research and concludes that the number of disasters is not increasing, but because of economic factors, their cost is increasing.

Now, if FPL would only bury its power cables.
