Opposition Activist Disappears in Cuba while Support Center Opens in Miami
Tuesday, May 17, 2005   By: Juan Paxety

May 20th meeting in Cuba

It appears fidel has begun his attack on the Assembly To Promote Civil Society.  The organization plans a meeting on Saturday, May 20th, Cuban Independence Day, to discuss a peaceful means of transferring the reins of government to a democracy.  That, of course, is the antithesis of fidel's revolution.

THE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT CENTER FOR THE MAY 20TH GENERAL MEETING IN CUBA
WAS OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED TODAY

Miami, Florida, May 16, 2005 –A ribbon-cutting ceremony and ecumenical benediction marked the official inauguration of The Information and Support Center, the site from which volunteers representing more than 50 Cuban exile organizations will join efforts to work in support of the May 20th General Meeting in Cuba convened by the Assembly to Promote Civil Society - a coalition of more than 350 independent groups within the island.

Reverend Father Joaquin Rodriguez and Reverend Guillermo Revuelta led the invocation and prayer from the Information and Support Center, located at 850 N.W. Le Jeune Road. The Center will serve to inform the international community of the Assembly's activities before, during and after the General Meeting, and will also monitor any violence and acts of repression perpetrated by Castro's regime against those participating in this event, which objective is to strengthen civil society towards the instauration of a democratic system in the island.

The Cuban exile organizations, represented through their spokespersons, invited the community in general to visit the Center in order to express their solidarity with this courageous initiative by signing in the Book which will be forwarded to the Assembly's Executive Committee after May 20th, and also called upon its generosity through contributions that will make the resources needed available to the Assembly to carry out this important event.
