Alltel, filubusters and immigration
The City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars are having another fuss over the Alltel Stadium lease. This time, it's over the signs (called "ribbon signs") that were put in for the Super Bowl. The Jaguars want to control, meaning collect the money, the signs during all events at the stadium. The ACC, when it agreed to play its championship game here, thought it would get revenue from them. So did the Gator Bowl. This fuss needs to be settled. College football is an important tourist destination for Jacksonville. We can't lose it.
The idea that a Senate filibuster should be a real filibuster - a la "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" is catching on. Tigerhawk has a roundup that includes discussion of how current rules make a real filibuster harder on the side resisting than on the the side filibustering. It all shows how badly politicians have screwed up the system.
Illegal immigration is a hot topic what with the recent intervention of The Minutemen and President Bush's legalization proposals. Writer A.M. Mora y Leon has a piece on The American Thinker that makes you do just that - think about the issue.
