A Comment For Captain Ed
Wednesday, November 24, 2004   By: Juan Paxety

Kerry vs. Ickes?

Captain Ed has a post on the Democrat shenanigans in Ohio. He comments on how they pulled the same stunt in Florida four years ago, and how Florida jumped to a five percent margin of victory in 2004. Here's my e-mail to Ed in reply:

It's my theory that the Democrats helped cause the 5% difference in Bush vote margins between 2000 and 2001. The Media Fund (a Harold Ickes group) saturated the airwaves with anti-Bush commercials, particularly one claiming "the Bush Administration" had secreted the Bin Laden family out of the country after 9/11. They bought these ads on radio stations that aired conservative talk show hosts.

Here in Jacksonville, they heavily bought on shows hosted by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, and Michael Savage on one station, and Bill Bennett, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt on another. These listeners were all most likely aware that the Bush Administration person who had let the family leave was Richard Clark.

What could these ads have possibly done other than reinforce the need of Republicans to show up at the polls? This probably shows that the Democrats were so wrapped up in their own view of reality, they could not imagine the views of Republican voters.    If I were a conspiracy nut, I'd say Ickes was trying to be sure Kerry lost to clear the path for his buddy Hillary.
