The Timesonline.uk says Hans Blix tried to hide the discovery of a new Iraqi drone. The news was buried inside a 173-page report declassified yesterday by the U.N. It says inspectors recently discovered the undeclared and illegal aircraft. Blix did not mention the drone during his address to the Security Council and Foreign Ministers, also yesterday.
"Recent inspections have also revealed the existence of a drone with a wingspan of 7.45m that has not been declared by Iraq,” the report said. “Officials at the inspection site stated that the drone had been test-flown. Further investigation is required to establish the actual specifications and capabilities of these RPV drones . . . (they) are restricted by the same UN rules as missiles, which limit their range to 150km (92.6 miles).
The report was released after Blix addressed the U.N. and raises serious questions about Dr. Blix's objectivity.
In another part of the report, inspectors say Iraq still has sprayers and drop tanks that could be used to disburse chemical or biological agents.
Could it be more obvious that Blix and the inspectors are acting as typical bureaucrats? Their first order of business is keeping their own jobs by slowly finding a little - but never too much.
This just in - Andrew Sullivan shares my views. And asks a good question. Why isn't this news in the New York Times?
