Cuban Music Update

More on Peer Music

Several Cuban songwriters, the publishing company Peer Music, and the Cuban government are all involved in a lawsuit over royalties. The story on the opening of the trial is here.

Rafael Venegas writes to say he's keeping up with the trial and the various claims at his site, Peer en Cuba. The site carries a disclaimer that the author, Guillermo Venegas Lloveras Inc., has a lawsuit against Peer in Puerto Rico.

I don't know who's right and who's wrong in these cases, but my experience in the music business was that everyone did as much as he could get away with to grab money away from the songwriter who created the music to begin with. I would suspect that no one is wholly innocent in this.
