Sending aid directly to Cuban families

The Cuban American National Foundation sent out this news release:

CANF TO SEND DIRECT AIDE TO CUBAN FAMILIES AFFECTED BY HURRICANE DENNIS

Today, the Board of Directors of The Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) announced the creation of a fund to aide the victims of Hurricane Dennis in Cuba. The hurricane devastated over half of Cuba's provinces, destroying thousands of homes and killing over twenty. The Cuban regime not only failed to make available emergency supplies to residents prior to the hurricane, but has not made any attempt to help those displaced from their homes.

The CANF has set up the "Cuba Relief Fund" which will consist of contributions from CANF membership. Its purpose will be to aide those families in Cuba most affected by Hurricane Dennis.

"During this difficult time, when the Cuban regime ignores the cries of its citizens who've been devastated by the effects of this hurricane, it is important the Cuban people know that we are ready to assist in anyway we can to lessen their suffering," said Jorge Mas Santos, Chairman of The Cuban American National Foundation.

"It is critical that any assistance sent to help the hurricane victims in Cuba not end up in the hands of the regime as is the unfortunate result when well-intentioned groups or nations send humanitarian aide to the island, and therefore, all funds collected through the "Cuba Relief Fund" will be sent directly to opposition and church leaders on the island who will then identify and distribute help to those families who are most in need," concluded Mas Santos.
