Place: Meeting place of the group “Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa”, in Pedro Betancourt, Matanzas, Cuba

On the 21st and 22 of September, members of the group “Movimiento Independiente Opcion Alternativa” fell victim to a mob of communist protestors who were repudiating a meeting between this said group and the groups Frente Femenino Martha Abreu de Villa Clara, and Frente Femenino del Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa.

Oscar Sánchez Madan, a noted independent reporter and spokesperson for Movimiento Independiente Opción Alternativa, was savagely beaten and left with bruises on his face.

Many Cuban exiled organizations have launched a campaign in support of this human rights organization that has once again fallen under attack by Castro´s regime, and at the same time make a calling to the national public opinion, governments, and religious organizations to initiate an international petition against the Cuban government for consistent violations of human rights. Initiators of this campaign:

Miguel Sigler Amaya, representing from exile the “Movimiento Independiente Opcion Alternativa”. Jesus Roque Sixto, president Fundacion Civica Martiana. Josefa Lopez Pena, co-founder of Damas de Blanco and representative in exile of the group Frente Femenino del Movimiento Independiente Opcion Alternativa
