Iran And Venezuela Plan Oil Refinery
Thursday, June 01, 2006 By: Juan Paxety
In addition to a cement plant and a tractor factory
While environmentalists keep the United States from building new oil refineries, they have no effect on Venezuela. That countries near-dictator has just reached an agreement with the mullahs in Iran to build one. Bloomberg quotes the Iranian news agency.
`The refinery will be designed to refine heavy oil and produce gasoline and other oil derivatives,'' the report said.
Eulogio del Pino, a board member of Petroleos de Venezuela SA, said yesterday his company is studying a refinery plan with National Iranian Oil Co.'s Petropars unit to supply Iran with gasoline and other petroleum products.
Venezuela has four heavy-oil joint ventures, all of which send crude to plants along the coast where the oil is processed into lighter crude. None produces gasoline or other refined products.
Iran has the world's second-biggest oil and natural-gas reserves. Concern its nuclear enrichment program may lead to United Nations sanctions helped push up oil prices 18 percent this year.
Remember that Iran is also helping Venezuela build a cement factory and a tractor factory. Iran is also helping fidel with a cement plant, too. Could a missile factory for Iranian nukes be far behind?
