Cats, 24 and Morleys

They were all laughing at me. Sure, it was silent laughter, but laughter just the same. I could see their smiles, the slight squenching of the eyes, even the bellies shaking. They were laughing all right.

And they were everywhere. Under my futon, behind the bathroom door peeping through the crack, on top of the television, even under one of the plastic grocery sacks that had escaped the garbage and was dwelling happily on the kitchen floor.

They were small like kittens, but had the longer, sleeker bodies of full grown cats. All laughing.

When I sat up in bed they all disappeared faster than a panel from a crashed space alien's ship put in the U.S. Mail for shipment to the Art Bell Show.

I had a dream.

Maybe prompted by my watching some of 24 last night on Fox. I try not to watch much TV - too much of a time waster. Besides, whenever I see an episode, I always expect one of the conspirators to hang up the phone, turn in his office and look at a man, standing in a dark, back corner, who is smoking a Morley.
