Venezuela, Belen and self-help
Our friend A.M. Mora y Leon is live blogging at Babalublog from Venezuela. She tells us what she's seeing of the elections - lots of soldiers and very few voters.
The polling stations were empty because voters didn't want to see their votes desecrated. That's all there is to it. Venezuelans were threatened with the loss of their jobs if they didn't vote and they ... just didn't vote anyway. Brave people! The polling stations were ghost towns, even in the chavista areas! Miguel took me to the poor parts of town where we tried hard to find someone voting and just about nobody did. Nobody wears red shirts, either, except a few Chavista party activists. Chavez has a problem - not even the chavistas can stand him.
Conductor Fishfan writes at Cuban American Pundits that the Archdiocese of Miami is using strong arm tactics against the Belen Jesuit Preparatory School.
Belen has been educating Catholic leaders in our community for more than 40 years. The school is recognized as being among the top ones academically in South Florida. I was shocked and disgusted when an email came across my desk this morning alerting me to the tactics that the Archdiocese has used in order to extort an agreement from the school that it does not directly control.
For you folks who have trouble getting everything done that needs to be done, Bill Peschel is reviewing a system contained in a book by David Allen, Getting Things Done: The Art Of Stress-Free Productivity. Bill's first post is here.
