Film director J. Lee Thompson has died. He directed "The Guns of Navarrone", "Planet of the Apes," and the film so many people believe Hitchcock made, "Cape Fear." The original version with Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchem, Polly Bergen, and Lori Martin.

Thompson selected Savannah for the shooting loaction and Armstrong House (left) as the school where Lori Martin's character was stalked by Robert Mitchums' character.

Armstrong House was once owned by the notorious Jim Williams of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Williams sold the building to the law firm that represented him.

It's directly across Bull Street from The Oglethorpe Club. The story in town is that Robert Mitchum did a lot of drinking in the club during the making of "Cape Fear." He annoyed many members by arriving without a jacket. He had to wear one the club held in reserve.
