First Jags Pick May Be First Texan
Thursday, January 24, 2002 By: Juan Paxety
Tony Boselli the Jacksonville Jaguars first ever draft choice may soon be gone to the Houston Texans. Boselli says he will be sad to leave the Jaguars. But I doubt he’ll be as sad as the fans. Also rumored to be on the expansion draft list are defensive tackle Seth Payne, defensive end Tony Brackens, and wide receiver Keenan McCardell McCardell is a Houston native and Brackens is a Texas native. Also rumored is a quarterback Mark Brunell trade – possibly to Washington. This shows what the salary cap can do to teams.I fear next year, the stands at Alltel Stadium will be filled with yobs.
Update - Informed sources say the Jaguars unprotected list consists of Boselli, McCardell, Payne, Gary Walker, and Zack Weigert. The same sources say that if Boselli is taken, his loss, along with the free agency loss of Renaldo Wynn and Kevin Hardy will put the Jaguars under the salary cap by the March 1 deadline. Then phase 2 of salary cap fixing begins.
